Traffic Skills 101: Smart Urban Cycling October 4th

The Smart Urban Cycling skills class is designed to provide cyclists, of all experience levels, the opportunity to develop and improve their cycling skills, competence and confidence with a special emphasis on bicycle commuting and safely navigating urban traffic.

This course provides instruction and guidance in the use of the basic principles of vehicular bicycling.  Topics include:  Bicycle parts and components, clothing, equipment, handling skills, traffic law, road positioning, lane changing, emergency maneuvers, road hazards and riding etiquette.

This course (Traffic Skills 101) was developed by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB)It provides people who attend and pass all the coursework a certificate, and is a pre-requisite to the more advanced skill classes including a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) seminar.

The New Haven Department of Transportation, Traffic and Parking has a limited number of bicycles and helmets available for rent during the course. Please indicate whether you would like a loaner bike and helmet when registering. 

The class runs from 8:30am until 5pm. Cost for the class is $25 until September 26 and increases to $35 until October 3rd.
