7th Annual Bike to Breakfast Draws Hungry Cyclists

June 2, 2014

Almost 100 cyclists enjoyed good company and a yummy free breakfast May 30th at the seventh annual B.icyclist A.ppreciation B.reakfast at Y.ale (B.A.B.Y.)! Besides lots of carbs in the shape of mini muffins and chocolate croissants, attendees were given grey t-shirts emblazoned with the “I Bike New Haven” logo.

Both the Yale and New Haven cycling communities were invited to attend. “Cycling continues to be a viable and healthy way to get to work. The bike culture at Yale and in New Haven is strong and continues to grow,” said Holly Parker, director of Sustainable Transportation.

Many of the cyclists who stopped by were regular commuters, but some made a special effort to bike because of the opportunity to socialize with other cyclists the bike breakfast brings. Because of different schedules and routes, cyclists don’t often get to co-mingle. This event gives them that chance.

Highlights of this year’s breakfast included an appeal from New Haven’s current Director of Transportation, Doug Hausladen to let him know what the City can do to improve bicycling in our city and a visit from former Director of Transportation, Mike Piscitelli! Peter Crumlish, Dwight Hall’s Finance Manager stopped in with three slightly smaller, and brilliantly colorful family members!

More great bike events will happen throughout the summer. Please check back here regularly for updates./
